Flutter to 'Digital Nature 2019,' at LA Arboretum

What to Know

  • Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden

  • Feb. 27 through March 3, 2019

  • $16 adult; $14 child

Nighttime extravaganzas filled with light and mystery have become delightfully synonymous with some of Southern California’s larger garden settings, at least around the holidays.

But you don’t need to wait for November or December to step into a plant-filled spread sparkling with illuminated pieces, for the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanical Garden will be the after-sundown setting for a five-night art-forward happening.

“Digital Nature 2019” is the event’s name. And while the Arcadia garden just hosted a holiday happening full of amazing, lit-from-within sculptures, “Digital Nature 2019” is based in the realm of large-scale projection.

“Contemporary artists will project their work onto the lush garden landscape at night,” reveals the arboretum, creating an ethereal world where ideas weave through nature in striking fashion.

Themes will run the eye-catching gamut, with butterfly camouflage, “interactive digital wildflowers,” and heavy metal all getting their moment in the sun.

Er, make that moon.

Again, this is an after-hours event, on from 6 to 9 o’clock, and it will only bloom at the very, very end of February and the very, very beginning of March.

No joke on all of those “verys”; the dates are Feb. 27 through March 3.

Meaning that, unlike the holidaytime, after-dark garden events, “Digital Nature 2019” will not be around for a month or more.

Best fly, like something with fast and fluttery wings, to the ticket page, now.
