What to Know
Aquarium of the Pacific
Sunday, Feb. 3
There’s no stadium where the land meets the ocean in downtown Long Beach, and we don’t even need to “spoiler alert” that one, for everyone knows this is so.
For you surely know that the picturesque stretch along the boat-filled harbor is packed with restaurants, shops, and the world-famous Aquarium of the Pacific, and there is no room for a mega sports stadium right there. Nope.
But, on Super Bowl Sunday, there is typically some stadium-inspired action at the aquarium, each and every year, when the adorable and cooed-over Otter Bowl takes place.
Oh, you don’t know Otter Bowl? Where tumbly, twirly otters play with tiny toy footballs as they splash around in their habitat?
Are your heartstrings sufficiently tugged yet? Yes, they are.
Alas: There is no Otter Bowl planned for Feb. 3, 2019 at the aquarium. Rather, the aquatic landmark is taking the day to pay loving tribute to the memory of Brook, a popular sea otter who passed away on Jan. 29, following a diagnosis of congestive heart failure.
The public is invited to visit the aquarium’s Sea Otter Habitat on Feb. 3 and fill out a card in honor of sweet Brook, one that will recall the joy that the almost 22-year-old otter brought to so many visitors.
Were you, and are you, a Brook buff? This surely would be a sentimental way to share your love.
All of the cards will be displayed on the railing found next to the exhibit, all throughout Feb. 3.
