A crowd was dispersed, 19 people were taken to local hospitals with injuries and police issued a citywide tactical alert after a chaotic scene overshadowed a memorial for slain rapper Nipsey Hussle in South Los Angeles Monday night.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it was responding to reports of shots fired at approximately 8:30 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department said that reports of the shots fired were inaccurate a short time later.
At least one person was stabbed at the vigil, law enforcement sources told NBC News. LAFD said 19 people were taken to area hospitals related to the incident, with two of them in critical condition, two in serious condition and 15 considered to be non-life threatening.
Newschopper4 Bravo was over the scene and observed the crowd scatter multiple times, with several people injured and receiving medical attention from paramedics. Several police vehicles could be seen approaching the scene in response to the chaos, and police showing force to take control of the chaotic situation.
Police proceeded to create a skirmish line and dispersed the crowd that had gathered to pay respects to the slain rapper prior to the panic and injuries.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., the LAPD issued a citywide tactical alert, NBC News reported. Newschopper4 Bravo observed approximately 100 police officers on Slauson Avenue near the memorial.
